We always use this quiet time of the year to refurbish hotels and take our long haul holidays… Some of you already heard about our trips and know I love to travel and organize travel programmes.
This year, we wanted to travel to India but last October, all my contacts in India decided to quote in Euros the programmes … were in Dollars before … just a little increase of 30% ! We then decided to use the dollar exchange rate in our favour for traveling abroad : direction MEXICO .
Guy was skeptical on food, I was scared about the crowd on beaches and our son afraid of the long long air trip …But we put together a nice programme and this is it !
From France, you need about 14 hours of flight to reach Yucatan through Mexico , the first place we decided to land on, but what enchanting colours when you arrive ! The country of haciendas makes you revive the atmosphere of colonial villages, like Campeche where we stayed, the paved streets and its houses painted with blue, purple, pink, it is delightful ! We were staying at the Hacienda Puerta de Campeche.

Near Merida, we stayed at Hacienda Santa Rosa and Hacienda Temozon, both beautiful houses with wonderful gardens .

These haciendas have been completely reconstructed and you will find the atmosphere of the beginning of the century when they were real huge factories of sisal : 2 000 workers were on site , local school and hospital …Today, they are bought by rich Mexicans and transformed into luxurious properties . Expensive but thanks to our strong Euro, we could afford !
Most of them have their private gardens and the cooks are using their vegetables to let you discover the inventive Mexican meals … so much better that what you can find in the “tex mex” restaurants in France ! Guy was relieved!
During that week, we were renting a car and visiting archeological sites such as Uxmal and Chichen Itza. Quite impressive maya culture and considered as one of the “new 7 wonders of the world”

The second week, we relaxed on the Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen . Small charming hotel called Shangrila Caribe : nothing fancy but nice beach, great staff and quality food . One of the rare small charming places on that coast amongst huge modern hotels …
